The Role Of Theory In International Relations
One of the most significant and hopeful development in recent years in the study and practice of the International relations has been the intensification of a conscious and deliberate attempt to arrive at an understanding of international behaviour through theoretical investigation. While theorizing on International relations is by no means new, little effort has been made in the past to develop a carefully conceived framework for theoretical inquiry, with the result that no integrated theory exists which can serve as an adequate guide for either the scholar in explaining international relations or the practitioner in formulating and executing pplicy.
What these essays attempt to do is provide some guidelines for theoretical inquiry in the field so as to direct efforts along this line into the most productive channels. In particular, they attempt to provide some answers o the most relevant questions which may be expected to be raised in the construction of a general international relations theory.
