The Samin Movement
Surontiko Samin was born, probably in 1859, in a village near Randublatung in the southern part of Blora regency. He was an ordinary peasant, the owner of 3 bau (about 5 acres) of ricefield, as befits the founder of a nw religion, a noble ancestry was attributed to him, whether by himself of his followers.
Samminist activity reached its peak in 1914, probably because the head-tax was increased. In Grobogan the Saminists were unprecedentedly disrespectfull to the authorities, and moreover attracted the support even of some village official.
