Working Papers From The Program In Law & Society Number 4 Sentecing In California: A Study In Organizational Interaction
This is the fourth in a series of papers reporting work in progress by students, faculty and visiting scholars associated with the National Institute of Mental Health Training Program in Law and Society at the Center for the Study of Law and Society, University of California, Berkeley.
The outlines of this paper were first presented at an informal talk in December 1972 at the Center. This paper is intended as a draft of a more complete study of the relationship between the courts and the Department of Corrections in developing sentencing policy in California.
The subject of this paper is the "presentencing diagnostic program". This program is operated by the Department of Correction (CDC) at three state prisons for the purpose of providing social and psychological evaluations of and spesific sentencing recommendations for felons convicted in superior courts.
