The International Legal Center
The InternationalLegal Center was established as a nongovermental, nonprofit organization in New York City in late 1966. The Center's objective is to cooperate with the developing nations in efforts to understand and improve the contribution of their legal systems to their contemporary needs.
The basic aim of nation-building and of international programs of development is the achievement of the requisite capabilities for self-development. For the most part, deve;opment efforts traditionally have concerted on such fields as economics, health, education, agriculture, and industry. Inadequate attention has been given to the legal field.
In recent years, impetus for the reform of law and legal institutions has come from both lawyers and non-lawyers in the developing nations, who recognize that a well-function-ing legal system can stimulate and sustain development.
