Webster's Dictionary
The vocabulary. The old material has been completely revised, scientific discoveries, and historical developments and social changes (often with accompanying changes of emphasis or point of view), had dated much of it.
The old material has been brought completely up to date, and much new material has been added. The previous edition eas prepared before the days of broadcasting, pshchoanalysis, the talkies, television, radar, jet-propulsion.
In providing for the current interest in scientific subjects we have not abandoned the older fields of literature, music, art, and architecture.
A new feature of this edition of the Dictionary is the guidance given in the use of words. Such help is more necessary today then ever beforesince less reading is done by many of the literate than in former times when leisure occupations were fewer and less varied.
