The Leiden Legacy : Concepts of Law in Indonesia

This book discusses, it suggets that the original construction of the adatrecht idea arose from an essentialist account of the nature of nations, nationhood and national law, an account derived form the theories of post-enlightenment historians in central europe. it also suggests that the conventional contrast of the east as againt the west is a false dichotomy. in place of that, it proposes a new interpretation of the colonial polemics and it suggests that, in the end, the adatrecht idea came to serve a function which its oiriginal exponents did not intend.
