The Indonesian revolution : basic documents and the idea of Guided Democracy
The struggle for Indonesia's independence was inspired by the desire for a new Indonesian society which the people could live not only in comfort but also in keeping with their own ideas of what a human community should be. Recently, these ideas have been enunciated more strongly, d=and concious for their implementations. There has been considerable discussion of what is called Guided Democracy and the Just and Prosperous Society which is its objective.
The purpose of publishing this collection of transleted document is :
1. To illuminate the Idea of Guided Democracy by showing it in relation to the Basic Documents of the Indonesian Revolution.
2. To provide more accurate translation of the documents in question, using annotations to various key words and phrases, in an endeavour to make them more significant to the English-speaking world.
with this objective in mind, at times the use of more technical terminology has been avoided in favour of more literary terms. This is especially true with regard to the terminology of political science, the connotations for which often do not harmonise with the conditions in Indonesian society, and would therefore be misleading.
